THE SUMPTUOUS MEAL

Looking at the picture above brought back fresh pangs of hunger and memories of all the hunger I have ever felt in my entire life. I could not help but wonder what is going on in so many homes living under the poverty line. A lot of children crying out in huger in so many homes and some mothers forcing their dry breasts into the mouths of their last children who are still toddlers just to placate them. I just pray blood does not flow out in place of milk.

Still looking at the picture, I can see some governors who have not paid workers’ salaries for months and some with several abandoned projects scattered across their states yet with high performance ratings only in sponsored media documentaries. The total expenditure of a single governor in this photo is enough to offset at least a month salary or complete one of the numerous abandoned projects.

I hate looking at the picture because it exposes the folly of the Nigerian project where forex which is needed to shore up our economy is expended on frivolities all in the name of dispelling rumours. While the president could have done a simple selfie and post online or a simple video call with his own phone will suffice, we chose the most expensive option in this age of new media technology. What I am yet to fathom is why everyone wants to see the president as if it is a ticket to heaven. Do not get me wrong, I do not refer to the common man on the street as wanting to see him but the political class with their crazy ego and “eye service”. As a governor you have no business globetrotting on an excuse that adds no value to your state.

Food and drink and a smile from the recuperating president is all they spent money on. The governor cannot bring back a second governor for a third term. The contents of that table left no space for “buy Nigeria” as I did not see any bottle of kunu, zobo, soya milk or any other Nigerian delicacy. The table was filling up foreign pockets and foreign farmers stood to gain from the healthy meal.

I am happy the agents of change have actually changed the way things are done in the country. Political office holders running down to London just to prove political relevance at the expense of their states’ welfare. A simple call put across to the president would have saved our economy from bleeding from the waste I saw on that table. That sumptuous meal is a waste to Nigeria and a display of our madness for vanity. They should have arranged “CHANGE” and bought fruits from the roadside sellers in their respective states and do a conference video call with the president. This waste has made me lose my appetite even though I am still very hungry.

  1. Hmmm.....thought its just me that saw this pix. But yelling will still fall on deaf ears. All Nigerians need is the outstretched arm of God, Him alone can help us.
